"Me gusta representar y asociar las cosas que están a mi alrededor –señala la fotógrafa inglesa Regular Jane - Por el momento gozo de un nuevo entorno porque estoy viviendo en Portugal. La playa y este cielo azul claro se han convertido en una fuerte presencia en mi galería desde el momento en que pasó a formar parte de mi vida cotidiana. Soy originaria de Londres, así que esto es un lujo. Echo de menos mi ciudad natal y tengo un montón de planes de fotografía para cuando regrese allá.

"Trato de crear un ambiente de época en mis fotos- continúa la artista- Me encanta practicar la fotografía con esta playa cerca de mí, cambiar el estado de ánimo y recobrar esa escena cuando la abro en photoshop.

El arte de Regular Jane es el de alguien capaz de disfrutar intensamente los más pequeños y cotidianos placeres de la vida. Una taza de capuccino, libretas moleskine, clásicas y digitales; unas gafas para el sol en forma de corazón, la afectuosa expresión de la mascota amada, un botón de rosa, un postre recién ornado con chocolate…cualquier cosa dulce es digna de su mirada inquieta.

"Soy autodidacta –reconoce la "Reina del Vintage en DA"- Siempre he querido hacer un curso profesional a corto, pero nunca encuentro tiempo para hacerlo, así que he desarrollado mi fotografía por mi cuenta. No soy técnica con mi fotografía, no ambiciono llegar a las masas. Simplemente trato divertirme.

"Considero que la fotografía a ser una parte muy importante de mi vida. Es parte de lo que soy, de lo que me define. Disfruto sentir la carga de mi cámara, que siempre llevo conmigo, y fotografiar objetos cotidianos. Tengo discos duros completos de imágenes a la espera de ser abiertos y editados. La mayoría de mis fotos, de hecho, nunca han sido vistas o admiradas por nadie, excepto por mí.

Esta es una diversión que Jane se toma muy en serio. Tan en serio como parece tomarse esas pequeñas cosas que su mirada amplifica y hace brillar. Empequeñece, asimismo, ese mar azul de Lisboa al tamaño de un botón para incorporarlo a su personal cajita de tesoros. La fotografía es parte de su vida… como respirar, abrazar osos de peluche, comer pastel y beber té dulce.

"Ni siquiera estoy segura de que tengo una vocación real como fotógrafa, pero sí sé que si me voy unos días sin hacer algo relacionado con fotografía me siento un rara. Acabo de editar algunas fotos que me remiten a la rareza de distancia. Creo que la fotografía es en realidad una parte enorme de mi vida y sólo parece encajar en mi pequeño mundo.
Las cámaras, que parecen confundirse entre los objetos amados de Jane hasta crear la simbiosis perfecta, la acompañan donde quiera que va, junto con las libretas y los plumones:

"Siempre he utilizado cámaras Canon. Mi cámara actual es una Canon 40D y el 99,9% de las imágenes son tomadas con una lente normal 50mm 1.8. Editar mis fotos con photoshop ya que soy gran aficionada a la estética vintage / retro. Además, me gusta que mis fotos se vean con un toque surrealista y como si cada una fuera parte de una misma historia, y el photoshop me permite crear esas sensaciones.

Contrario a lo que sugiere el toque retro y la aparente simpleza de las fotos de Regular Jane, ella es muy afecta al photoshop: "Estoy muy a favor de manipulación de imágenes. Sé que hay muchos fotógrafos que fruncen el ceño ante las fotos procesadas, y he tenido algunos comentarios ásperos sobre algunas de mis imágenes que consideran excesivamente procesados, pero es lo que me gusta y esta es mi manera y estilo. Hay quienes consideran que la escena real está a punto de perderse en la edición final, pero estoy bien con eso.

Los fotógrafos que Regular Jane cita como sus más admirados, tienen una estética y una técnica afines a la suya que podríamos describir como "retoque de apariencia sutil":

Regular Jane ya tiene en mente un par de proyectos que ella califica de "grandes proyectos": una serie de té y otra de Battersea Power Station, una central termoeléctrica inactiva ubicada en Battersea, Londres.

"Yo vivía muy cerca de la central y me obsesioné un poco con ella y comencé a hacer tomas con película desde hace mucho tiempo. El segundo proyecto más grande que he estado involucrado con una serie de té y estoy siempre en busca de tazas de té de la vendimia y artículos relacionados con el té.

Le gustaría, sin embargo, incursionar en el retrato de personas: "¡Sí! Me gustaría incursionar en fotografía de retrato pero hacerlo con sabiduría. ¡Busco modelos dispuestos!

En la fotografía de Regular Jane predominan los tonos pastel, así como un ritmo lejano de música con estática. Producen la emoción de abrir un cajón que ha permanecido cerrado por largo tiempo. Reflejan la feliz presencia del reino de la infancia que poco tiene que ver con la nostalgia, pues no se puede echar de menos lo que nunca se ha ido.

"I am surrounded by everyday things and like to represent and associate the things that are around me –indicates English photographer Regular Jane -I have new surroundings at the moment as I am living in Portugal. The beach and clear blue sky feature heavily in my gallery at the moment as that is what is around me. I am from London so this is a luxury! I miss my hometown and have lots of photography plans for when I go back.

"I like to try and create a vintage atmosphere in my photos –continues the artist- I love photographing the beach near me and changing the mood and feeling of the scene when I open it up in photoshop.

"I am self taught. I have always wanted to take a short professional course but never really got around to it and just developed my photography on my own. I am not massively technical with my photography and I just try to have fun with it.

Regular Jane' art is of someone able to enjoy more intensely everyday small pleasures of life. A cup of cappuccino, moleskine notebooks -digital or classic-, a shaped heart sunglasses, the loving expression of a beloved pet, a rosebud, newly dessert with chocolate ornate ... anything sweet is worthy of her restless eyes.

"I consider photography to be a huge part of my life and what I do –recognized the DA Vintage Queen- It is part of who I am and what defines me. I enjoy the burden of never forgetting my camera and photographing inane daily objects and having hard drives full of my images waiting to be opened and edited. Even if the majority of my photos are never viewed or admired by anyone they have been viewed and admired by me.

This is a fun that Jane taken very seriously. As serious as it seems to take little things that she amplifies and makes shine. Dwarfs Lisbon blue sea at size of a button to add it to her staff box of treasures. The photograph is part of her life ... like breathing, hugging teddy bears, eat cake and drink sweet tea ..

"I am not even sure that I have an actual calling as a photographer but I do know that if I go a few days without doing something photography related I feel a bit weird. Even just editing a few shots takes the weirdness away. I guess photography is actually a massive part of my life and just seems to fit in with my little world and daily life.

The cameras, which seem to be confused between Jane loved objects to create the perfect symbiosis, accompany her wherever she goes, along with notepads and heart- markers:

"I have always used Canon cameras and at the moment I use a Canon 40D and 99.9% of the images are taken with a regular 50mm 1.8 lens. I always edit my photos with photoshop as I am a really big fan of the vintage/retro look. Also, I like my photos to look like they are slightly surreal and story like and photoshop allows me to create these feelings.

Contrary to retro feeling and apparent simplicity that Regular Jane's photos suggested, she is very affecting to photoshop: "I am very pro image manipulation. I know that there are many photographers that frown on over processed photos and I have had some rough comments on some of my overly processed images but it is what I like and this is my way and style! Some professional photographer friends of mine have made some comments that my images are too processed and that the real scene is almost lost in the final edit but I am OK with it.

Photographers who Regular Jane mentions as her most admired, have an aesthetics and a technique similar to her that I might describe as "subtle appearance retouching":

Regular Jane already has in mind a couple of projects that she describes as "Big Projects": a series of tea and other one about Battersea Power Station.

"My two biggest projects have been a Tea series and a Battersea Power Station series. I lived quite near the power station and became slightly obsessed with it and began shooting it with film a long time ago. The second biggest project that I have been involved with is a Tea series and I am always on the lookout for vintage tea cups and tea related items.

She would, however, venture into the portrait of people "Yes! I would love to venture into portrait photography and feel like this is my next step photography wise. I am looking for willing models!

In Regular Pictured artwork are mainly pastel tones and a distant pace with static music. It produces the same excitement of opening a drawer that has been closed for a long time. Is a happy reflex of kingdom of childhood that havent nothing to do with "nostalgia" because you cannot miss it what never gone.
